The Frozen Love
Once, a snowman was cursed to be omnipresent in the house’s backyard. He would wait for the winter, hoping someone would build him to see the world. The curse would break if he cried in joy.
As he lay there for years, he started to live like the rest of the house. When the people of the place make a snowman in the backyard, he will get to see the house through the eyes; otherwise, he would talk to the doors, windows, and roof. They will tell him what’s going on inside.
The Curse
In 1909, a family with a little girl bought the house and moved in. The girl made the snowman the winter of the same year. She named him Rudolph. They developed a close bond that the world refused to believe. But it did not last long. The family had financial trouble, and the bank foreclosed their home. The little girl cried to the snowman, hugged him, and asked him to promise him that he would wait for her until she came back. The love bound the snowman to the house, eventually becoming a curse.
Months became years, and years became decades, and the house saw different families come and go. Few loved the snowman and brought his physical form back during winter, while others just enjoyed the winter and talked about the silly people making snowmen and snow angels.
The snowman saw it all for fifty long years.
A New Hope
In the winter of 1959, a new couple moved in. The snowman felt a little butterfly in his stomach and felt strongly about that winter. The couple was very loving to each other and to the house too. They decorated the entire house for Christmas, and one night, they built a snowman in the backyard, started the fire, drank wine, and had s’mores late at night. The snowman enjoyed watching the couple spend time in love. It tingled him, and he had a smile on it that nobody could see.
As days passed, the snowman could hear from the doors and windows about whats happening in the house. He was so interested this time as he felt the love in the place after a long time. He was happy to know that the couple got married in the backyard and had a beautiful summer wedding. He couldn’t wait for the winter to see them.
When the winter came, the couple made the snowman, and he now saw that the house looked more beautiful. The landscape appeared beautiful; there was a new sunroom with big windows. The snowman could look directly inside through the window. He had heard all this before, but it is lovely to see it through his eyes. Through the window, the snowman was able to see their little fights, make-ups, baking together, treating their friends, and so much more. He did not want the winter to end. But just like everything in the world, it came to an end.
The Baby
During the year, the snowman got his share of news through the ears of the house. It was pretty standard until the middle of the summer when he heard that the woman had become visibly fat and was finding it hard to walk. It started to ring a bell to the snowman. He had seen it all with the previous families, and he knew what would happen.
The winter came, and as usual, the couple made the snowman. The snowman saw the new baby through the window for the first time. He felt delighted. The rest of the winter was pretty quiet as the couple seemed pretty busy. The snowman was gone by the end of winter, and the couple didn’t notice.
The Rejoice
After two more winters of routine and usual things in the house, the third winter arrived. It was a Sunday, and the dad and the girl came out to the backyard. They talked about it being the first time for the kid to be out in the snow. She saw the snowman and kept staring at him. The snowman started back, and the dad was talking. The girl went near the snowman, touched his belly, and asked where his belly button was. It tickled the snowman so much that he started laughing, but no one could see it. The girl started laughing too. The snowman got shocked as he did not know why she started laughing.
The snowman kept looking at the girl as she played around in the snow. The dad got a call, said something to the girl, and went inside. A little later, the girl started walking back. She looked at the snowman and said buh-bye to him as she stepped back. He heard that and said buh-bye. To the world, it was just a mere exchange of expressions. The snowman could not believe what was happening.
The Curse Broken
As it was getting late, the dad called the girl from inside,
Veronica, come inside. It’s getting cold out there.
Coming, Papa. I am going to call the snowman, Rudolph. Do you like it, Papa?
The girl hurriedly kissed the snowman in the belly and ran inside.
On hearing the name, the snowman cried in joy. It was the little girl’s name who said she would come back for him. He melted away in his tears of happiness.
Don’t we all wait for that particular love to come back?
